He graduated from the Department of Oriental Painting at Hongik University in 1967 and later moved to the United States, where he completed his graduate studies at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1974. Having studied both traditional Korean painting and Western contemporary art, he developed his own distinctive artistic style.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring the 1960s, Shin was repeatedly selected for the National Art Exhibition of Korea, receiving a Special Prize in 1966. In the United States, he established himself in San Francisco, where he helped found an organization for Korean artists in 1977 and served as president of the Korean Artists Association in the San Francisco area in 1982. He also taught painting at his alma mater, Hongik University, in 1989.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eOne of the most distinctive features of Shin's work is his use of earth as a painting material. While studying in the United States, his longing for his homeland led him to recall the familiar scent and warmth of Korean soil, inspiring him to incorporate earth into his paintings. By applying layers of earth to the canvas and painting over them with acrylics and other materials, he creates richly textured surfaces and warm colors. His subjects include people, animals, birds, fish, the sun and moon, and flowers, combining the simple, expressive forms of traditional Korean folk painting with elements of Western contemporary art.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis works also explore themes such as the relationship between humanity and nature and the cycle of life, in which all living things emerge from and eventually return to the earth. Through boldly simplified figures and animals, freely drawn lines, and compositions that emphasize the texture of earth, Shin has developed an artistic world that is both approachable and distinctive.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eSince the 1970s, Shin has held solo exhibitions in Korea and the United States. His works were exhibited at the Korean Cultural Center in Los Angeles in 1984 and the Gana Art Center in Seoul in 1999. He also held solo exhibitions in Tokyo in 1991 and 1994. He continued to exhibit in cities including New York and Seoul, maintaining an artistic career centered on Korea and the United States.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eHis works are held in collections including the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea, and the Sungkok Art Museum.
