Special Feature: Japanese Gifts That Capture the Spirit of History

We've put together a selection of recommended items for those looking for unique products that can only be found in Japan. Each one embodies the artisanal skills and Japanese culture, making them popular gifts and for the home. Many traditional crafts and art pieces are often thought to be expensive and difficult to obtain, but in fact, many can be purchased at surprisingly reasonable prices.

Sword tsuba

The tsuba is one of the fittings of a sword. In addition to making it easier to use a Japanese sword, the fittings also serve the roles of protecting it and making it easier to carry.

Among the fittings of a sword, the tsuba is one of the most exquisitely designed parts. Some are made of gold or silver, and the patterns and openwork carvings are a concentrated expression of the craftsman's high level of skill and aesthetic sense.

Old Japanese Coins

Old Japanese coins are often assumed to be very expensive due to their historical value, but many can actually be purchased at reasonable prices.

The coin shown here is a Tempo Tsuho, which was circulated from the late Edo period through the early Meiji period (approximately 1845–1896). Measuring about 5 cm in diameter, it is significantly larger and heavier than modern Japanese coins.

At our gallery, these coins are available for JPY 1,000 per piece. Please note that this item is sold in-store only, so we would be delighted if you could visit us in person if you are interested.

In addition, our operating company, World Coins Japan, offers a much wider selection of old and historic coins.

Japanese Boxes and Vessels

How about beautifully crafted Japanese boxes and vessels decorated with traditional designs?

Items adorned with classic Japanese techniques such as maki-e (gold lacquer decoration) and raden (mother-of-pearl inlay) each possess their own unique brilliance and texture. Raden work changes its appearance depending on the angle of light, while maki-e uses fine gold powder to create elegant patterns—both techniques are highly admired by international collectors.

Ceramic boxes, tea bowls, and plates featuring traditional Japanese motifs are also popular, allowing you to enjoy a sense of Japanese aesthetics in everyday life. These items are not only visually beautiful but also practical, making them ideal gifts.

Hanging Scrolls and Paintings

Hanging scrolls and paintings depicting Japan’s four seasons, landscapes, flowers, and birds are popular interior pieces that convey the essence of Japanese culture.

They complement not only traditional Japanese rooms but also modern Western-style interiors, adding a calm and refined atmosphere to any space.

The delicate brushwork of skilled artists and the texture of traditional Japanese paper are especially appealing, and we offer many one-of-a-kind works bearing the artist’s signature.

These pieces are perfect for home decoration as well as meaningful gifts or souvenirs for overseas visitors.

Why not bring a touch of Japanese beauty into your everyday life?
