PARK Kosuk was one of the key painters of Korea’s postwar transition into modern and contemporary art, establishing a distinctive presence through landscape and mountain subjects marked by both lyricism and a strong sense of volume. In his early years he studied and exhibited in Japan, and in the 1940s his works were selected for major exhibition frameworks in Tokyo. He maintained close exchanges with prominent contemporaries such as Lee Jung-seop (I Jung-seop), forming part of the important personal and intellectual networks that shaped modern Korean art.

After returning to Korea, Park became deeply involved not only as an artist but also on institutional and educational fronts. He served as a professor at Seoul National University and later as Dean of its Graduate School of Fine Arts. In addition, he held key positions and took on judging and selection roles within organizations and major national exhibition systems, including the Korea Fine Arts Association and the National Art Exhibition of the Republic of Korea (Kukjeon), exerting significant influence on the direction of postwar Korean art and on the development of the next generation of artists.
