Amedeo Gennarelli was an Italian sculptor born in Naples who later worked primarily in Paris. Having studied under Francesco Jerace, he developed his career in the Parisian art world from the 1910s onward, becoming known for his elegant figural sculptures in bronze, terracotta, and marble. He was particularly acclaimed for his female figures of the Art Deco period, characterized by their graceful forms and refined, stylized treatment.

This work is regarded as one of his representative pieces, capturing the moment of a nude woman seated on a black base, raising one arm high as if about to release a carrier pigeon. Several versions of the same subject are known, including silver-finished bronze and terracotta examples.
