A pair of bird-and-flower paintings in color on silk, signed and sealed by Kano Eiun, an official painter to the Matsue domain in Izumo. One scroll depicts magnificent peonies and peacocks, while the other portrays a phoenix with paulownia. The two refined compositions unite subjects symbolizing wealth, honor, and good fortune.

Kano Eiun was active during the early Edo period. Born into the Ota family, his given name was Shigenobu. He studied in Edo under Kano Yasunobu, head of the main Kano school, and was later granted permission to use the Kano surname in recognition of his artistic ability. He subsequently served Matsudaira Tsunataka, the second lord of the Matsue domain. In 1668, he received the honorary Buddhist title of Hokkyo and became known for introducing the orthodox Kano school style to Izumo.
