Remarks: Signed and sealed; with tomobako storage box and related documentation; extensive staining and discoloration. Original title: Quiet Night

A hanging-scroll bijin-ga painting by Kiyoshi Kobayakawa depicting a woman appreciating incense on a quiet night. Her white kimono, lustrous black hair, and the incense utensils beside her are rendered in subdued colors, conveying both her contemplative enjoyment of the fragrance and the serene atmosphere of the night.

Born in Hakata, Fukuoka, Kiyoshi Kobayakawa moved to Tokyo at the age of 19 and studied under the renowned bijin-ga painter Kiyokata Kaburaki. Active in both Japanese-style painting and the shin-hanga movement, he is known for his refined and elegant portrayals of modern women.
