Kibo Kodama was a Japanese-style painter from Hiroshima who studied under Gyokudo Kawai. He received early recognition, including a Special Selection Award at the Imperial Art Exhibition. Building upon traditional Japanese painting, he incorporated elements of Western painting and produced a wide range of landscapes, bird-and-flower paintings, and figure works. He received the Japan Art Academy Prize in 1953 and was elected a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1959.

This work depicts a seaside village beneath a calm, clear sky. Houses line the coast, while waves, rocky shores, and pine trees fill the foreground. The expansive blue sea and the village rendered in vivid greens and vermilion create a lively view of the coast beneath newly cleared skies.
