Zhao Mengfu was a prominent Chinese literati painter and calligrapher of the Yuan dynasty.

This hanging scroll depicts figures and horses beneath a tree. Under its widely spreading branches are a mounted figure and another horse standing nearby. The subdued tones, primarily rendered in pale ink, and the delicate lines used to portray the figures and horses are particularly striking.
