Shen Quan was a Chinese painter of the Qing dynasty known for his flower-and-bird paintings. He traveled to Nagasaki in 1731, and his realistic, meticulous style had a significant influence on Japanese painters.

This flower-and-bird hanging scroll is attributed to Shen Nanpin. White flowers and plants bearing red fruit grow around the rocks, while two birds are depicted close together in the lower part of the painting. Small birds flying overhead and the finely rendered plants and flowers create a vivid and decorative composition.
