Collection: Keigo Kimura
Keigo Kimura (born 1944) is a Japanese-style painter (Nihonga artist) from Kyoto Prefecture, Japan. Aspiring to become an artist from an early age, he began studying under Masatomo Yamamura during his junior high school years. After graduating from high school, he continued his training under the renowned Nihonga painter Kayo Yamaguchi. In 1974, he received an Honorable Mention at the Shell Art Award Exhibition and subsequently continued to exhibit his works at numerous exhibitions.
Kimura is particularly known for his depictions of cherry blossoms, Mount Fuji, seasonal landscapes, and dragons. His paintings are characterized by bold compositions and rich colors that convey the vitality and power of nature. Cherry blossoms are among his most representative subjects, ranging from magnificent scenes of trees in full bloom to ancient cherry trees that have endured for centuries. In his landscapes featuring Mount Fuji and rocky mountains, he captures the grandeur of nature and the changing effects of light.
He held solo exhibitions at the Shiga Prefectural Museum of Modern Art in 1987, the Narukawa Art Museum in Hakone in 1992, and the Hikarigaoka Museum of Art in 1994. In 1996, he received the Citizens' Award at the 3rd Tatehiko Suga Grand Prize Exhibition. He also created artwork for the 1999 NHK historical drama Genroku Ryoran and completed a series of traditional wall paintings at Horakuji Temple in Osaka in 2001.
In 2003, the Keigo Kimura Sakura Museum opened in Nagaizumi, Shizuoka Prefecture. In 2006, an exhibition themed "Millennial Cherry Blossoms and Sacred Dragons" was held in Cannes, France. He continued his artistic career with a 50th-anniversary exhibition in 2016, reflecting his long-standing dedication to exploring the expressive possibilities of Nihonga painting.
